Inspired by the death of Ferdinand Magellan in 1521 at the hands of Lapu warriors in what is now modern day Philippines. After a year sailing from Spain, and 'discovering' the Pacific Ocean, Magellan came to the Philippine Islands and quickly made friends... and also enemies. He was speared to death on the Island of Lapu Lapu, a rival island of his native hosts, with much of his armada standing out to sea and watching.
